Notre Dame will make its third appearance at MetLife Stadium. The Fighting Irish faced Navy in MetLife Stadium’s inaugural season in 2010.
Syracuse is the 19th-winningest program in college football. The Orange is one of only two schools with national championships in football, men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse. Syracuse has 25 bowl game appearances and has earned invitations to every bowl game in the College Football Playoff.
Syracuse is one of just 16 schools with 18 former players and coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame, one of seven schools with at least seven alums enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and one of just 38 schools to have a Heisman Trophy winner. Syracuse’s Ernie Davis was the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy in 1961.
Notre Dame is one of the most legendary college football programs. The Fighting Irish have won 11 consensus National Championships, a record seven Notre Dame players have won the Heisman Trophy, and the program has produced 187 first-team All-Americans, 97 consensus All-Americans and 33 unanimous All-Americans, all more than any other school in the country.
Notre Dame and Syracuse last met in 2014 in New York’s College Classic at MetLife Stadium. The Irish took a 4-3 lead in the series with a 31-15 victory in that game.
