Jets and Giants Honor Designated Drivers at Fantasy Football Event
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – July 18, 2012 – The New York Football Giants, New York Jets and their partners in the Bud Light Good Sport Designated Driver Program held a fantasy football event at MetLife Stadium yesterday for fans who pledged to be designated drivers last season. To help promote a positive in-stadium experience for fans and to help make our roads safe, the teams partnered with Anheuser-Busch, Delaware North Companies Sportservice and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition to successfully register nearly 11,000 fans for the Bud Light Good Sport Designated Driver Program during the 2011 season – an 87 percent increase from the previous season.
The Jets and the Giants each welcomed 25 of their respective fans, along with their guests, for an evening of Punt, Pass & Kick events on the field at MetLife Stadium followed by a reception in the Toyota Coaches Club. The randomly selected winners were chosen from all the fans who registered to be designated drivers last season. To qualify, designated drivers must:
- Be over the age of 21 and have a valid driver’s license
- Promise to not drink alcohol at the game
- Ensure a safe ride home from the game for their friends and family
Giants and Jets fans can sign up at any of the Bud Light Good Sport kiosks located inside the MetLife, Verizon, West and Pepsi Gates, or the guest services booths located on every level of the Stadium. Fans who pledge to be designated drivers receive a complimentary non-alcoholic beverage.
“We’re thrilled to see Jets fans embracing the use of designated drivers,” said Neil Glat, President of the New York Jets. “We want our fans to have an enjoyable experience at the stadium and get home safely after every game.”
“We want every game day to be safe and enjoyable for our fans, both in the stadium and as they travel home after the games," said Mike Stevens, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for the New York Giants. "We're proud that so many of our fans have chosen to demonstrate responsible behavior."
“For 30 years, Anheuser-Busch has led our industry in developing responsible drinking initiatives and Bud Light Good Sport , one of our most visible programs, promotes positive fan behavior through the use of designated drivers,” said Kathy Casso, vice president, Corporate Social Responsibility at Anheuser-Busch. “The Fantasy Football event at MetLife Stadium was a wonderful way to thank fans for volunteering to be the designated driver and for doing their part to help keep our roads safe.”
“Sobriety is no accident,” said Sportservice president Rick Abramson. “That’s why we work closely with our clients to strongly promote and advocate that fans make responsible decisions when it comes to alcohol and to take appropriate action, including declining to serve them, when they do not. The designated driver program is an important component of the alcohol management program at MetLife Stadium.”
“The success of the Bud Light Good Sport program at MetLife Stadium is a direct result of the commitment from the NFL, the NFL teams, the concessionaire, the wholesalers and all the campaign partners," said Jill Pepper, executive director of TEAM Coalition. "Teamwork is what the program is all about. We are demonstrating that when everyone - including the fans - takes responsibility, everyone wins."
According to a survey conducted by ORC International’s CARAVAN®, the majority of sports fans adults 21 and older, who drink alcohol beverages, said they drink responsibly and in moderation.
About MetLife Stadium
MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Jets and New York Football Giants, sets the standard for venue excellence with state-of-the-art technology, comfort and amenities. The only active venue to serve as the home stadium for two NFL teams, MetLife Stadium hosts 20 NFL games per season, more than any other Stadium.
With a full, game-day seating capacity of 82,500, MetLife Stadium is the largest stadium in the National Football League. It boasts numerous dining options and a rail line that drops guests directly at the front door. During its inaugural year in 2010, MetLife Stadium was selected to host Super Bowl XLVIII, and in 2014 the venue will become history’s first open-air venue in a cold-weather region to hold football’s biggest game.
In 2011, MetLife Stadium was ranked No. 1 for safety by Security magazine’s “Security 500” in the Arenas/Stadiums/Leagues/Entertainment division and for the second consecutive year was cited by Billboard magazine as the highest-grossing stadium in North America.
To commemorate three decades of responsible drinking initiatives, Anheuser-Busch has launched a new website, www.NationofResponsibleDrinkers.com, from which adults can pledge to drink responsibly – including using a designated driver. For the past three years, Anheuser-Busch and its wholesalers have promoted the use of designated drivers and alcohol responsibility by establishing Global Be(er) Responsible Day – this year observed on September 21. Since 1982, Anheuser-Busch and its nationwide network of wholesalers have invested more than $930 million in national advertising campaigns and community-based programs to promote responsible drinking, prevent underage drinking and drunk driving and address college issues.
